Job Overview
The Building Company is inviting applications for a Driver position at its BUCO Longbeach branch. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing safe, prompt and efficient delivery services to the store’s clients. The main objective of the position is to ensure that all goods are delivered to customers in the correct quantities and without breakages, damage or shortages.
The role involves delivering goods, assisting with loading activities, conducting daily vehicle inspections, maintaining the delivery vehicle and ensuring that all delivery-related documentation and payments are handled correctly. The driver will also be expected to provide good customer service and uphold the company’s values and culture.
This is a permanent, full-time position with one vacancy available. The salary is market related.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants interested in this position must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Grade 12 qualification.
- A valid Code 10 (Heavy Vehicle) driver’s licence or Code 8 (Light Vehicle) driver’s licence, as applicable to the vehicle weight category.
- Two years of relevant working experience.
The position covers vehicles within the 3,501 kg to 9,000 kg category. Applicants should therefore ensure that they hold the appropriate driving licence for the vehicle they will be required to operate.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out various driving, delivery, vehicle maintenance and customer service duties.
1. Delivering Goods
- Deliver goods to the store’s clients safely, promptly and efficiently.
- Ensure that all items are delivered in the correct quantities.
- Prevent shortages, damages and breakages during the delivery process.
- Ensure that goods reach customers in the condition in which they were dispatched.
2. Vehicle Loading and Inspection
- Ensure that the delivery vehicle is neatly and correctly packed.
- Supervise and assist with the loading of goods onto the vehicle.
- Conduct daily vehicle inspection checks to ensure that the vehicle is in a suitable condition for use.
- Report any vehicle defects identified during inspections.
3. Vehicle Maintenance and Cost Control
- Maintain the delivery vehicle and ensure that it is properly looked after.
- Take the necessary steps to reduce costs associated with vehicle operations.
- Help prevent unnecessary vehicle damage and expenses through responsible vehicle use.
4. Delivery Administration and Payments
- Ensure that delivery notes and authorisations are properly handled.
- Collect Cash on Delivery (COD) monies where required.
- Ensure that the correct quantities and supplies are provided during deliveries.
5. Customer Service and Company Values
- Provide professional customer service when interacting with clients.
- Maintain a helpful and responsible approach when dealing with customers.
- Uphold and promote The Building Company’s values and culture.
