Minimum Requirements

Educational Requirements
- Grade 10 to Grade 12 is preferred.

Experience
- 1 to 2 years’ experience in cleaning within an industrial, agricultural or logistics environment.
- Experience working near heavy equipment or in high-traffic operational areas will be advantageous.
- Familiarity with cleaning chemicals, industrial waste handling and housekeeping procedures.
Technical Skills
The successful candidate should have:
- The ability to use cleaning tools and light cleaning equipment.

General Worker Duties and Responsibilities
Cleaning and Housekeeping
The General Worker will be responsible for keeping operational areas clean and safe.
Duties may include:
- Performing routine and deep cleaning of operational areas.
- Cleaning loading zones, workshops, offices and ablution facilities.
- Removing cane residue, mud, leaves, dust, oil spills and other debris.
- Cleaning high-traffic areas used by heavy equipment.
- Cleaning workshop floors, tools, benches and waste areas.
- Maintaining clean and organised storage areas.
- Keeping walkways, platforms and machinery access points clear.
- Cleaning around fuel stations, wash bays, parking areas and storage yards.
- Ensuring work areas remain free from unnecessary obstructions.
Waste Management
The General Worker will also assist with workplace waste management.
Responsibilities may include:
- Collecting and disposing of waste according to site procedures.
- Separating organic waste, scrap metal and general waste where required.
- Emptying waste bins and replacing bin liners.
- Keeping waste disposal areas clean.
- Preventing waste areas from overflowing or becoming contaminated.
- Transporting waste to designated disposal points.
- Using approved trolleys, bins and other waste-handling equipment.
- Assisting with recycling areas.
- Ensuring oil-contaminated materials are disposed of correctly.
Safety, Compliance and Hazard Control
Safety will be an important part of the role.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Follow company safety policies and housekeeping standards.
- Wear the required PPE at all times.
- Keep floors, ramps and pathways clean and dry.
- Remove or report hazardous substances and spills.
- Identify hazards such as broken glass, damaged flooring and unsafe storage.
- Report workplace hazards to the Supervisor.
- Place appropriate warning signs such as “Wet Floor” or “Cleaning in Progress” when required.
- Use cleaning chemicals correctly.
- Store cleaning chemicals safely.
Communication and Coordination
The General Worker will work closely with Supervisors and other operational employees.
Responsibilities include:
- Communicating with the Supervisor about cleaning priorities.
- Giving priority to high-risk areas where necessary.
- Coordinating cleaning activities around workshop technicians.
- Working safely around truck drivers, loader operators and other machinery operators.
- Reporting shortages of cleaning materials.
- Reporting faults with cleaning equipment.
- Attending daily operational briefings.
- Staying informed about operational shifts, high-traffic periods and workplace hazards.
