About the Opportunity
South African National Parks (SANParks) is inviting applications for a General Worker (Cleaner) position at Meerkat National Park. This is a fixed-term contract opportunity for 36 months, with the successful candidate required to work a minimum of eight days per month.
The successful applicant will be responsible for keeping offices, kitchens, reception areas, restrooms and other facilities clean, hygienic and well maintained. This opportunity is suitable for candidates with cleaning or housekeeping experience who understand proper hygiene practices and can safely operate cleaning equipment.
Preference will be given to applicants from communities surrounding the park, as well as applicants living with disabilities.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 10 qualification.
- One to two years of experience as a general worker, cleaner or housekeeper.
- Knowledge and understanding of cleaning materials and chemicals.
- Ability to operate cleaning equipment.
- Good understanding of hygiene and safe working practices.
- Basic knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Basic knowledge of relevant workplace regulations, policies and procedures.
Knowledge of First Aid will also be beneficial.
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will perform general cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, sanitising and polishing furniture in offices, passages, boardrooms, kitchens, reception areas and common areas.
Responsibilities will also include cleaning and sanitising restrooms, replenishing toilet paper and other supplies, emptying rubbish bins, replacing bin bags and ensuring that waste is disposed of correctly.
The candidate will clean kitchen surfaces, appliances, cupboards, windows and glass doors while ensuring that all areas remain neat and hygienic.
Other duties will include monitoring cleaning materials, toiletries and stationery, assisting with stock control, completing inventory sheets and maintaining daily cleaning inspection checklists. The successful applicant must sign the relevant kitchen and toilet cleaning checklists and ensure that stock meets the required quality standards.
The General Worker will also inspect cleaning and hygiene equipment, report breakages and maintenance problems, handle equipment correctly and follow safe working procedures. Additional duties may be assigned by the supervisor when required.
Salary and Contract Details
The position offers a daily rate of R543.82 under a 36-month fixed-term contract. The successful candidate will work a minimum of eight days per month.
