SANEDI EPC Skills Development Programme 2026 – 300 Learners | Grade 12 | 10-Day Training

The South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI) is inviting applications from unemployed South African youth for the EPC Skills Development Programme (SDP).

A total of 300 learners will be selected for the programme, which will be offered across seven provinces: KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, Western Cape, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, Northern Cape and Free State.

The programme is designed to provide unemployed graduates and qualifying youth with foundational knowledge and practical skills related to Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs), building energy-performance data collection and energy-efficiency assessments.

The initial training programme will run for 10 weekdays, with training scheduled to begin from 12 October 2026. Top-performing learners may subsequently be selected to participate in a 12-month EPC training programme combining theory and practical application.

Importantly, there is no monthly stipend for the 10-day EPC Skills Development Programme, and a transport allowance is not guaranteed.

About the EPC Skills Development Programme

The Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) Skills Development Programme forms part of the national initiative supporting the implementation of regulations relating to the mandatory display and submission of Energy Performance Certificates for buildings.

The programme aims to develop a pool of trained unemployed learners who can support qualified EPC professionals and energy specialists with activities such as collecting, recording, verifying and capturing building and energy-use information.

Participants will receive exposure to areas including:

• EPC fundamentals.
• Building information gathering.
• Energy-performance data collection.
• Data capturing.
• Quality assurance.
• Building energy-use information.
• EPC-related activities.
• Energy-efficiency assessments.

10-Day EPC Training Programme

The initial Skills Development Programme will consist of 10 weekdays of training covering EPC fundamentals and EPC data collection.

The training is aimed at unemployed South Africans who want to develop foundational technical and practical knowledge in the energy-efficiency and EPC environment.

Training is expected to start from 12 October 2026, although the final start arrangements will be communicated to successful learners.

Training will take place at participating TVET Colleges in selected provinces.

Opportunity for Top-Performing Learners

An important feature of the programme is that top-performing learners may be selected for further training.

Selected learners may be given the opportunity to attend a 12-month EPC training programme involving both theoretical learning and practical application of EPC knowledge.

The additional training provides a potential pathway for participants interested in developing towards roles in the EPC field.

However, participation in the initial 10-day programme does not mean that every learner will automatically progress to the 12-month training programme.

Who Can Apply?

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Be a South African citizen.
• Be between 18 and 35 years old.
• Be unemployed.
• Have a Grade 12/Matric certificate or an equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification.
• Have Mathematics or Mathematics Literacy at Grade 12/Matric or NQF Level 4 level.
• Be willing and available to participate in the complete 10-day programme.

Additional Requirements

Applicants should also:

• Be able to work independently.
• Be able to work as part of a team.
• Be willing to participate in field-based data collection activities where required.
• Be willing to travel to designated locations where necessary.
• Be willing to accept placement or transfer according to programme operational requirements.

Applicants are encouraged to apply within their province of residence where possible.

Provinces Where the Programme Is Available

The EPC Skills Development Programme will cover the following seven provinces:

• KwaZulu-Natal
• Gauteng
• Western Cape
• Mpumalanga
• Limpopo

Training will be conducted at participating TVET Colleges in selected provinces.

SANEDI reserves the right to place and/or transfer successful learners to locations within the programme according to operational requirements.
