MISA Apprenticeships 2026/2027 – Artisan Training Opportunities

The Municipal Infrastructure Support Agent (MISA) is inviting applications for its 2026/2027 Apprenticeship Programme, a three-year structured learnership programme designed to train unemployed youth towards qualifying as artisans.

The programme combines on-the-job and off-the-job training and will involve placement with targeted host municipalities. Applicants are required to indicate the municipality where they would like to be placed during the learning period, using the list of participating municipalities provided by MISA.

Opportunities are available in Electrical, Plumbing, Bricklaying, Motor Mechanic and Diesel Mechanic trades.

MISA encourages applications from historically disadvantaged individuals, although the programme is not exclusively limited to these applicants.

About the MISA Apprenticeship Programme

The MISA Apprenticeship Programme is intended to provide structured technical training to unemployed youth who have relevant qualifications for admission into specified artisan trades.

Successful candidates will receive practical workplace exposure as well as off-the-job training as they work towards becoming qualified artisans.

The programme is particularly relevant to candidates from TVET colleges and accredited training institutions who have completed the required technical studies for one of the advertised trades.

Applicants must select the trade they wish to apply for and clearly indicate the municipality where they want to be placed, based on the participating municipality list.

Available Apprenticeship Opportunities

1. Electrical Apprenticeship

Reference Number: Electrical 2026/01

Applicants for the Electrical Apprenticeship must meet one of the listed qualification routes.

Requirements include:

• Engineering Science or full N2 Engineering consisting of four subjects with relevant trade theory, including Engineering Science, Industrial Electronics, Mathematics and the fourth subject relevant to the trade; or
• Technical trade theory programmes quality-assured by a SETA and deemed equivalent to NQF Level 3; or
• Relevant Engineering NC(V) Certificate with seven subjects at NQF Level 3; or
• Technical Grade 11 with Mathematics, Science, language and a related theory subject; or
• Relevant N6 certificate or National Technical Diploma in the T, S or N stream, directly related to the trade theory subjects.

2. Plumbing Apprenticeship

Reference Number: Plumbing 2026/02

Applicants must meet one of the following qualification requirements:

• Engineering Science or full N2 Engineering with four subjects and relevant trade theory; or
• A SETA-quality-assured technical trade theory programme deemed equivalent to NQF Level 3; or
• A relevant Engineering NC(V) Certificate with seven subjects at NQF Level 3; or
• Technical Grade 11 with Mathematics, Science, language and related theory; or
• A relevant N6 certificate or National Technical Diploma in the T, S or N stream directly related to the trade theory subjects.

3. Bricklaying Apprenticeship

Reference Number: Bricklaying 2026/03

Candidates applying for Bricklaying must meet one of the specified technical qualification routes:

• Engineering Science or full N2 Engineering with four subjects and relevant trade theory; or
• SETA-quality-assured technical trade theory equivalent to NQF Level 3; or
• Relevant Engineering NC(V) Certificate with seven subjects at NQF Level 3; or
• Technical Grade 11 with Mathematics, Science, language and related theory; or
• Relevant N6 certificate or National Technical Diploma in the T, S or N stream directly related to the trade theory subjects.

4. Motor Mechanic Apprenticeship

Reference Number: Motor Mechanic 2026/04

Applicants must meet one of the following:

• Engineering Science or full N2 Engineering with four subjects and relevant trade theory; or
• Technical trade theory programmes quality-assured by a SETA and deemed equivalent to NQF Level 3; or
• Relevant Engineering NC(V) Certificate with seven subjects at NQF Level 3; or
• Technical Grade 11 with Mathematics, Science, language and related theory; or
• Relevant N6 certificate or National Technical Diploma in the T, S or N stream directly related to the trade theory subjects.

5. Diesel Mechanic Apprenticeship

Reference Number: Diesel Mechanic 2026/05

The Diesel Mechanic Apprenticeship has the following qualification routes:

• Technical Grade 12 with Mathematics; or
• Engineering Science or full N2 Engineering with four subjects, including Engineering Science, Industrial Electronics, Mathematics and Diesel/Motor Trade Theory; or
• N3 Engineering with four subjects, including Engineering Science, Industrial Electronics, Mathematics and Diesel Mechanic Trade Theory.

Applicants should carefully check the requirements for their chosen trade before submitting an application.

Who Can Apply?

The programme is aimed at unemployed youth from TVET colleges and accredited training institutions who possess qualifications relevant to the specified artisan trades.

Applicants should select a trade for which they meet the required academic or technical qualification criteria.

Candidates should also be prepared to undertake both practical workplace training and off-the-job learning during the three-year programme.

Municipality Placement

Successful candidates will be placed with targeted host municipalities.

Applicants must clearly indicate the name of the municipality where they would like to be placed during the learning period.

MISA has provided a list of participating municipalities for the 2026/2027 programme. Candidates should consult this list when completing their application form and select a municipality from the participating locations.

The release letter applies to learners who still need to complete Work Integrated Learning (WIL) or work exposure to satisfy the requirements of their institution.
