What Is the Transnet Trainee Controller Learnership?
This is a technical training opportunity aimed at developing trainee controllers who can work within pipeline operations.
A controller is responsible for helping ensure the safe and efficient movement of petroleum products through the pipeline network. This involves using specialised equipment and operating systems while considering product volume, product quality, safety and the protection of company assets.

Who Can Apply?
There are two qualification routes applicants can use to meet the educational requirement.
Option 1: Grade 12

Option 2: N3 Technical Engineering

What Will Trainee Controllers Learn?
The programme covers several areas involved in operating and maintaining a petroleum pipeline network.
Risk and Pollution Control
Trainees will learn about monitoring and communicating the risk status of a depot.
Training may involve monitoring separator tanks, identifying leaks or spillages, draining water from bund areas and following company and legislative safety requirements.
Learners will also need to understand permits, protective clothing, restrictions and operational instructions.
Handling Petroleum Product Mixtures
Another part of the programme involves learning how to handle transmixtures and intermixtures.
Trainees will use company operational systems and software to control pipeline equipment and will learn how to extract, verify and capture operational information accurately.
Training also covers planning and handling blending or tanker loading activities where required.
Minor Maintenance
Successful candidates will receive exposure to scheduled and unscheduled minor maintenance activities.
