General Worker Stores

The Western Cape Government Department of Health and Wellness has an opportunity for a General Worker Stores (Warehouse) at Worcester Regional Hospital in the Chief Directorate: Rural Health Services. The successful candidate will provide warehouse and stock support, including receiving, handling and issuing stock, maintaining stock records and ensuring adequate shelf-stock levels. The role also involves maintaining a clean and organised warehouse, supporting stock movement and distribution, and assisting with the safe delivery, relocation and disposal of hospital furniture and equipment.

Minimum Requirements

  • Basic numeracy and literacy.
  • Appropriate experience in a warehouse environment.
  • Good physical health.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks.
  • Ability to operate heavy-duty warehouse equipment.
  • Ability to work with cleaning materials.
  • Ability to perform high-dusting.
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment and supplies.

Key Responsibilities

Warehouse and Stock Support

  • Receive, handle and issue stock.
  • Maintain accurate stock records.
  • Ensure adequate shelf-stock levels.
  • Support efficient movement and distribution of stock to hospital departments.
  • Issue incoming and outgoing stock/buyouts according to the AOS (Accounting Officer System).
  • Safely and correctly operate warehouse equipment.

Furniture and Equipment

  • Assist with the delivery of furniture and equipment within the hospital.
  • Assist with relocating furniture and equipment.
  • Support the disposal of furniture and equipment.
  • Handle furniture and equipment safely to prevent damage.

Warehouse Environment

  • Maintain a clean and organised warehouse environment.
  • Work with cleaning materials where required.
  • Perform high-dusting and other physical tasks.
  • Support the efficient functioning of the warehouse.

  • Observe working hours and departmental policies.
  • Follow the relevant Code of Conduct.
  • Demonstrate accountability when performing assigned duties.

Inherent Requirements of the Job

The position requires candidates to be physically capable of performing warehouse duties, including:

  • Operating heavy-duty warehouse equipment.

  • Performing other physical warehouse tasks.
