About the Position
The Seasonal Child Minder position is designed to provide care and protection for children who become separated from their parents or guardians while visiting public beaches.
Successful candidates will work closely with Law Enforcement Officers to ensure that lost children remain safe until they can be reunited with their families. In some cases, Child Minders may also assist at overnight facilities where children require temporary accommodation and care.

Key Responsibilities
Successful applicants will perform a variety of duties, including:
Child Supervision
- Provide care for children placed in your custody.
- Comfort and reassure children who have become separated from their families.
- Ensure children remain safe while awaiting reunification.
- Escort children to ablution facilities when required.
Registration and Record Keeping
- Record the names of children received into your care.
- Record the names of the adults who handed the children over.
- Document the time children are received and reunited with parents or guardians.
- Submit accurate information to Law Enforcement Officers.
Shelter Management
- Erect the designated shelter or tent at the beginning of each shift.
- Clean the shelter during the day.
- Pack away all equipment at the end of each shift.
Care and Welfare
- Provide refreshments to children when necessary.
- Supply blankets where required.
- Monitor children’s wellbeing while in your care.
- Report medical concerns immediately.
- Notify supervisors of shortages in food, bedding, or supplies.
Overnight Facility Duties
Where assigned to overnight facilities, Child Minders may also be responsible for:
- Preparing three meals each day.
- Ensuring children have clean bedding.
- Maintaining clothing and blankets.
- Supporting children’s daily care requirements.
Reporting
- Report to the designated Law Enforcement Officer at the start and end of every shift.
- Remain at your allocated beach unless instructed otherwise.
- Follow operational instructions provided by supervisors.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Appropriate level of primary education.
- At least three months of relevant experience.
Preferred Requirements
Preference may be given to applicants who have:
- An appropriate level of secondary education.
- Six months of relevant work experience.
