Job Description
Introduction
RCL FOODS is inviting applications from suitably qualified and hardworking individuals for the position of General Worker within its Baking Division at the Pretoria Bakery in Pretoria West, Gauteng.
RCL FOODS is a well-established South African food manufacturer responsible for producing popular household brands such as Yum Yum peanut butter, Nola mayonnaise, Ouma rusks and Selati sugar.
The successful candidate will join the company’s supply chain team and report directly to the Stores Supervisor.
The main purpose of this position is to perform general warehouse and store-related duties, including cleaning, picking, packing, loading and unloading stock within the packaging and ingredients store.
The ideal candidate must be physically capable, responsible, safety-conscious and able to work effectively in a busy warehouse environment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
1. Operations and Stock Management
- Safely unload incoming stock and move products to designated storage areas.
- Stack and store stock correctly in the appropriate locations.
- Check incoming and outgoing stock to ensure accuracy and prevent damage.
- Report any stock shortages, damages or quality-related problems.
- Pick and prepare stock for dispatch.
- Ensure that the correct quantities and types of products are loaded for delivery.
- Move stock from storage areas to dispatch vehicles.
- Load, unload, move and stack materials using a forklift where required.
- Assist with physical stock counts and stock rotation.
- Keep store equipment, materials and working areas clean and organised.
- Conduct basic inspections and minor maintenance on forklifts and other equipment.
- Assist with general building, grounds and equipment maintenance when required.
2. Safety and Security
- Assist in maintaining the security of the store.
- Protect company stock against loss, theft and damage.
- Follow company health, safety, environmental and quality policies.
- Comply with HACCP and ISO requirements.
- Maintain good housekeeping standards.
- Operate equipment safely and follow established working procedures.
3. Teamwork and Self-Management
- Take responsibility for assigned duties and daily activities.
- Plan and prioritise tasks to meet operational deadlines.
- Maintain consistent quality and productivity standards.
- Report challenges, delays and outstanding tasks to the relevant supervisors.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and management.
- Assist team members when necessary.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude and willingness to go the extra mile to achieve team targets.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Matric / Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum of 1 year’s experience in a similar working environment.
- Good reading and listening skills.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and workplace procedures.
- Forklift licence will be an added advantage.

Performance will be measured according to the following:
- Compliance with stock picking, stacking, moving and safeguarding procedures.
- Maintaining cleanliness and order within the store.
- Preventing stock losses, damages and theft.
- Ensuring accurate stock handling and dispatch.
- Following workplace health and safety requirements.
- Maintaining productivity and quality standards.
