Who Can Apply?

Applicants must:

  • Be a South African citizen.
  • Be a resident of Gauteng Province.
  • Have one of the following qualifications:
    • Senior Certificate
    • National Senior Certificate (NSC)
    • National Certificate (Vocational) – Primary Health
  • Current Grade 12 learners may apply using their Grade 11 final results, provided they meet the minimum admission requirements.
Minimum Academic Requirements
Senior Certificate

Applicants must have:

  • English: HG D or SG C
  • Biology: HG D or SG C
  • Mathematics: HG D or SG C
  • Minimum M Score of 17

National Senior Certificate (NSC)

Applicants must have:

  • English – Level 4
  • Life Sciences – Level 4
  • Mathematics – Level 4

OR

  • Mathematical Literacy – Level 5

Applicants must also achieve an APS score of at least 27, with Life Orientation counting as half.

National Certificate (Vocational)

Applicants must obtain:

  • At least 50% in Fundamental Subjects.
  • At least 60% in Vocational Subjects, including:
    • South African Health Care System
    • Public Health
    • The Human Body and Mind
    • Community Oriented Primary Care

Selection Process

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to participate in the selection process, which may include:

  • Psychometric assessment
  • Medical surveillance
  • Physical examination
  • Verification of qualifications and supporting documents

Meeting the minimum requirements or completing the assessments does not guarantee admission into the programme.

Required Documents

Applicants should prepare and upload the following:

  • Senior Certificate, National Senior Certificate or National Certificate (Vocational)

OR

  • Current Grade 12 statement of results

OR

  • Final Grade 11 results (for current Grade 12 learners)

Shortlisted candidates will later be required to present original supporting documents for verification.

Successful Applicants Will Be Required To

  • Sign a training agreement with the Gauteng Department of Health.
  • Attend lectures and practical training sessions.
  • Participate in Work Integrated Learning (WIL).
  • Complete clinical placements at Gauteng Department of Health hospitals and clinics.
  • Work shifts, including nights, weekends and public holidays, as part of their practical training.
