STAFF NURSE

The Department of Health is inviting suitably qualified candidates to apply for 6 Staff Nurse positions within the PHC Re-Engineering (WBOT) Directorate at Sedibeng District Health Services.

The successful candidates will provide basic clinical nursing care while supporting community health programmes and Community Health Workers (CHWs).

The role involves training and mentoring CHWs, supervising community health activities, coordinating teams, community engagement, referrals, administration, reporting and providing basic nursing care in accordance with the applicable scope of practice and nursing standards.


Applicants must have:

  • Senior Certificate / Grade 12 or an equivalent qualification that allows registration with SANC as a Staff Nurse.
  • Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as an Enrolled Nurse, as specified in the advertisement.
  • Basic communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Basic writing skills.
  • Current professional registration with the relevant professional body.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Community Health & CHW Support

  • Facilitate training and mentoring of Community Health Workers.
  • Supervise CHWs.
  • Allocate and coordinate the work of the team.
  • Support community-based health initiatives.
  • Conduct and support community interventions and campaigns.
  • Assist with community mapping.
  • Allocate CHWs according to wards.
  • Facilitate and strengthen upward and downward referrals.

Community Engagement

  • Liaise with ward councillors and other community structures.
  • Support community entry processes.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with community stakeholders.
  • Participate in community health programmes and campaigns.

Nursing Care

  • Provide basic clinical nursing care according to the approved scope of practice.
  • Follow applicable nursing standards.
  • Demonstrate professional and effective communication with patients.
  • Communicate appropriately with supervisors and colleagues.
  • Support managers in ensuring quality nursing care.
  • Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Administration & Reporting

  • Complete required administrative duties.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Prepare and submit required reports.
  • Ensure relevant patient and programme information is properly recorded.
  • Assist with monitoring and reporting of community health activities.

  • Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals.
