Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 10, ABET Level 4, or an equivalent qualification.
- Ability to read and write.
- 0–2 years’ experience as a Porter in a healthcare facility (advantageous).
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work well in a team.
- Ability to work shifts and under pressure.
Key Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be responsible for:
- Transporting patients between registration points and hospital departments.
- Transporting deceased patients from wards to the mortuary.
- Assisting with transferring patients from ambulances and private vehicles to stretchers or wheelchairs.
- Cleaning and sanitising stretchers and wheelchairs after every use.
- Completing ambulance documentation and updating porter registers.
- Recording accurate patient details received from ambulance services.
- Ensuring wheelchairs and patient trolleys are always available and ready for use.
- Remaining on standby to assist other hospital departments when required.
- Treating all patients with dignity, respect, and professionalism.
- Ensuring clean linen is available daily and sorting soiled linen accordingly.
