JOB DESCRIPTION
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is inviting applications for a Pharmacist Intern position at its Musgrave store in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.
The successful candidate will gain practical experience and training in the pharmaceutical environment while developing the knowledge and skills required to provide quality pharmaceutical care to patients.
The internship aims to equip graduates with an understanding of the major areas of pharmacy practice, promote lifelong learning and ensure excellent customer service.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Essential Requirements:
- Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
- 4-year Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) degree.
- Computer literacy, particularly MS Office.
- Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council or a valid work permit.
Advantageous Requirements:
- Previous holiday work experience during university studies.
- Knowledge of Unisolve and E-Scripting systems.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Pharmacist Intern will work under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist and assist with various pharmaceutical services, including:
- Assisting with dispensing and preparing medication according to prescriptions.
- Accurately capturing prescription details and verifying patient information.
- Picking, packing and labelling medication correctly.
- Providing patients with instructions on the correct use of medication.
- Assisting customers at the dispensary, self-medication counter and front shop.
- Maintaining accurate patient profiles and prescription records.
- Processing medical aid claims and correcting rejected prescriptions.
- Assisting with chronic, HIV/AIDS and oncology medication authorisations.
- Monitoring stock levels and reporting shortages or stock errors.
- Assisting with stocktakes and maintaining stock control.
- Following pharmacy policies, procedures and health and safety regulations.
- Maintaining professional conduct and excellent customer service.
