Joburg City Theatres Professional Cookery Learnership 2026 | CATHSSETA-Funded Programme
Are you passionate about cooking and dreaming of a career in the hospitality industry? Joburg City Theatres (JCT) is inviting unemployed young people living within the City of Johannesburg to apply for its CATHSSETA-funded Certificate in Professional Cookery Level 4 Learnership Programme.
This 12-month learnership combines classroom learning with practical workplace experience, giving successful candidates the opportunity to develop valuable culinary skills while working towards a nationally recognised qualification.

Monthly Stipend
Successful learners will receive a monthly stipend of R3,500 for the duration of the programme, in line with approved CATHSSETA funding guidelines.
About the Programme
The Professional Cookery Learnership is designed to equip unemployed youth with both theoretical knowledge and practical workplace experience in the hospitality sector.
Learners will receive structured training that prepares them for employment in professional kitchens, restaurants, hotels, catering businesses, and other food service establishments.
Minimum Requirements
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be a South African citizen.
- Be between 18 and 35 years old.
- Be unemployed.
- Reside within the City of Johannesburg.
- Have successfully completed Grade 12 (Matric) or an equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification.
- Have English as a Grade 12 subject and be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Be passionate about cooking and pursuing a career in hospitality.
- Be willing to attend both classroom training and practical workplace training for the full 12 months.
- Not be registered on another learnership, internship, or funded skills programme.
- Have good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Be reliable, committed, and eager to learn.

- Grade 12 (Matric) certificate or equivalent qualification.
- Updated Curriculum Vitae (CV).
- Proof of residence confirming residence within the City of Johannesburg (Ward Councillor confirmation letter).

- Successful applicants will sign a Learnership Agreement with Joburg City Theatres, CATHSSETA, and the training provider.
