Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- At least 6 months of relevant horticultural experience.
- Ability to operate gardening machinery, including brush cutters and lawnmowers.
- Basic knowledge of plants, gardening tools and safety requirements.
- Horticultural skills and good communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team, follow instructions and maintain safety standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
Successful candidates will assist with general gardening, landscaping and environmental maintenance at Rand Water’s facilities.
Duties will include:
- Weeding and maintaining gardens and outdoor areas.
- Planting, watering, pruning and dividing plants.
- Preparing soil and applying fertilisers and chemicals according to instructions.
- Using gardening tools and operating horticultural machinery.
- Loading, unloading, packing and stacking materials.
- Counting stock and managing gardening assets.
- Identifying plants, weeds, alien plants and indigenous plant species.
- Applying water-wise gardening principles.
- Assisting with decorations and floral displays.
- Monitoring gardens and equipment for damage or theft.
- Assisting with landscaping projects, including stepping stones, gabions, stone packing, retaining walls and water features.
- Mixing cement and erecting poles when required.
- Attending Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) representative meetings.
Knowledge and Skills
Candidates should have basic safety knowledge, an understanding of plant care and horticultural practices, and the ability to use hand tools correctly.
