About the Opportunity
The Gauteng Department of Health is seeking dedicated and hardworking Laundry Workers to support hospital laundry and linen services.
Successful candidates will play an important role in ensuring that hospital patients receive clean, hygienic, and properly maintained linen and clothing. This position contributes directly to infection prevention, patient care, and the smooth operation of healthcare services.
The role involves physical work and requires individuals who are reliable, willing to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 10 or Grade 11 (authentic school report)
- OR Grade 12 (Matric Certificate)
- OR an equivalent qualification
The following will be an added advantage:
- Knowledge of laundry services
- Experience with linen handling
- Sewing skills
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work well in a team
- Understanding of Batho Pele Principles
- Physical fitness to perform manual work
- Willingness to rotate between different work areas
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays
Duties and Responsibilities
Successful applicants will be responsible for:
- Collecting dirty linen from hospital wards
- Delivering clean linen to various departments
- Operating washing machines, dryers, and pressing machines
- Ironing, folding, counting, and packing clean linen
- Sorting and recording dirty linen
- Labelling linen bags correctly
- Repairing and sewing torn linen
- Participating in linen stock counts
- Cleaning linen trolleys
- Ensuring delivery checklists are signed
- Assisting supervisors with additional laundry duties
- Following Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations
- Applying Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) procedures
- Attending meetings and training sessions
- Participating in performance management processes
