Job Purpose

The purpose of the role is to:

  • Support burial services operations
  • Assist with mortuary and funeral-related duties
  • Provide respectful assistance to grieving families

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have:

  • Grade 12

Experience Required

Candidates should have 1–2 years of experience in:

  • Burials
  • Funeral services
  • Funeral planning

Key Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for:

  • Assisting with removals
  • Registering deceased details in the mortuary register
  • Correctly labelling bodies
  • Washing and storing bodies in mortuary trays
  • Ensuring bodies are stored in the correct locations
  • Assisting with body identification
  • Preparing bodies for autopsy
  • Cleaning mortuary and viewing areas
  • Sterilising autopsy instruments and equipment
  • Preparing instruments for pathologists
  • Washing and sterilising instruments after autopsies
  • Preparing bodies for collection
  • Coffining bodies
  • Releasing bodies to authorised family members
  • Communicating with families regarding autopsy updates when necessary
  • Monitoring mortuary access and signing in visitors
  • Assisting with funeral grave and hall decoration setup
  • Installing lowering device machines
  • Taking responsibility for equipment and materials
