Ivanplats Artisan Learnerships 2026 – Apply for Auto Electrician, Boilermaker, Diesel Mechanic, Millwright and Other Trades

Ivanplats (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Ivanhoe Mines, has opened applications for its Artisan Learnership Programme 2026. This exciting opportunity is aimed at young South Africans who are passionate about engineering and mining and want to build a successful career in the mining industry.

The learnership programme offers practical workplace training and theoretical learning in various engineering trades required at the Ivanplats Platreef Mine in Limpopo. Successful candidates will receive structured training while working at one of South Africa’s most advanced mining developments.

Applications close on 17 July 2026, and preference will be given to Historically Disadvantaged South Africans (HDSAs), women, and qualifying applicants from communities surrounding the Ivanplats Platreef Mine.

About Ivanplats

Ivanplats (Pty) Ltd is a subsidiary of Ivanhoe Mines and is developing the world-class Platreef Mine near Mokopane in Limpopo Province.

The mine contains significant deposits of palladium, rhodium, nickel, copper, and gold and is designed as a modern mechanised underground operation using advanced mining technology. The project aims to become one of the most technologically advanced mining operations in South Africa while creating employment and skills development opportunities for local communities.

The Artisan Learnership Programme forms part of the company’s commitment to developing skilled artisans for the future mining industry.

Artisan Trades Available

Successful applicants will receive training in one of the following artisan disciplines:

  • Auto Electrician
  • Boilermaker
  • Diesel Mechanic
  • Fitter and Turner
  • Instrumentation
  • Mechanical Fitter
  • Millwright
  • Rigger

Each learnership combines classroom learning with practical workplace experience to prepare learners for trade testing and future employment.

Programme Duration

The learnership programme will run for:

  • A maximum period of three (3) years, or
  • Until the learner successfully obtains a recognised trade qualification, whichever comes first.

Throughout the programme, learners will gain valuable hands-on experience under the supervision of qualified artisans and experienced technical personnel.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Grade 12 (Matric).
  • Mathematics passed with a minimum of 60%.
  • Physical Science passed with a minimum of 60%.
  • N2 qualification in an engineering-related field.
  • South African citizen or permanent resident.
  • Willingness to participate in the full learnership programme.

Candidates who do not meet the minimum educational requirements may not be considered.

Work Environment

Successful learners should be prepared to:

  • Work underground.
  • Work on the surface.
  • Participate in various mining operations.
  • Work in different engineering departments.
  • Perform practical training in challenging mining environments.
