Job Overview

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is currently recruiting an experienced Casual Cashier for its Pavilion Shopping Centre store in Westville, KwaZulu-Natal. This part-time opportunity is ideal for candidates with cashier or till operating experience who enjoy working with customers and delivering excellent service in a busy retail environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for operating the point-of-sale (POS) system, processing customer transactions, handling cash securely, and assisting customers with payments, refunds, exchanges, and loyalty programme transactions. Accuracy is essential, as Dis-Chem maintains a zero-tolerance approach to fraud, cash shortages, and transaction errors.

Cashiers are expected to build positive relationships with customers by providing professional service, answering questions about products and promotions, and ensuring every customer enjoys a smooth checkout experience. You will also assist in promoting current sales, loyalty programmes, and partner reward systems while maintaining the company’s five-star communication standards.

Daily responsibilities include processing cash, card, voucher, coupon, and other approved payment methods while ensuring every item leaving the store has been correctly scanned and paid for. Cashiers are also responsible for managing their allocated cash drawers, ensuring all cash is safely secured, and following strict company procedures regarding cash drops, password security, and transaction approvals.

The role requires individuals who are observant and committed to maintaining a safe retail environment. You should be able to recognise suspicious behaviour, report security concerns promptly, and follow all company security policies to help minimise fraud and stock losses.

Successful candidates will also process loyalty card transactions for various rewards programmes, including those offered through Discovery Health, Momentum Multiply, Medihelp, Legacy Lifestyle, ABSA Rewards, eBucks, and other accelerator partners. Good communication skills and confidence in assisting customers with these programmes will be beneficial.

Essential Qualifications

  • Grade 12 (Matric).

Experience

  • Minimum of 6 months’ experience as a cashier or till operator.

Key Responsibilities

As a Casual Cashier, your responsibilities will include:

  • Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system accurately.
