ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Are you passionate about education and enjoy working with children? Curro is inviting applications from eligible young South Africans for its YES Programme Student Teacher opportunity at Curro Bryanston.

This programme is designed for young people who want to gain practical experience in a school environment while developing skills for a future career in education.

Successful candidates will support educators with classroom activities, lesson preparation and learner development. They will also have opportunities to participate in training and mentorship to strengthen their professional skills.

The position is a 12-month, stipend-based contract, with duties scheduled to commence in January 2027.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Successful candidates will assist with the following duties:

  • Classroom Support: Help teachers prepare lessons, organise classrooms and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Learner Support: Encourage learner participation, help learners stay focused and provide individual assistance when needed.
  • Assessment Assistance: Support educators with marking, recording results and monitoring learner progress.
  • School Activities: Assist with extracurricular programmes, school events and other learner activities.
  • Teaching Resources: Prepare teaching materials, photocopies and digital resources.
  • Administrative Duties: Assist with filing, updating learner records and basic school communication.
  • Training and Development: Participate in mentorship and training opportunities to develop workplace skills.
  • Professional Conduct: Demonstrate responsibility, teamwork, reliability and respect for Curro’s values.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be South African youth between the ages of 18 and 34.
  • Must be previously unemployed.
  • Must have a qualification in Education, Early Childhood Development or related studies. This qualification is essential.
  • Must have SACE registration. Provisional or conditional registration is accepted.
  • Must live close to the Curro school they are applying to.
  • Must have a passion for working with children.
  • Must possess good communication and organisational skills.
  • Must be patient, energetic, reliable and responsible.
  • Must be willing to assist with lesson preparation, classroom organisation and extracurricular activities.
  • Must be able to work well with educators and other staff members.
STIPEND AND CONTRACT DETAILS

Successful candidates will receive a monthly stipend ranging from R5,241 to R6,000 for the 12-month contract.

Please note that this is a temporary opportunity and not a permanent salaried position.
