The South African Navy, under the Department of Defence, has announced several entry-level vacancies across different naval bases in South Africa. These opportunities are ideal for job seekers with an ABET qualification who are looking for permanent government employment.
Most of the advertised positions do not require previous work experience, making them suitable for first-time job seekers and unemployed South Africans who meet the minimum requirements.

Salary
Successful candidates will receive salaries according to the Public Service salary scales.
Handyman
- Salary: R170,226 – R200,523 per year (Level 03)
Cleaner, Household Aid, Groundsman, Food Service Aid and Messenger
- Salary: R144,024 – R169,656 per year (Level 02)
Government employees may also qualify for applicable employment benefits in accordance with Public Service regulations.
Minimum Requirements
Most of the advertised positions require:
- Minimum ABET qualification
- No previous work experience required
- Ability to communicate in English
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills
- Ability to work well in a team
- Physically fit for manual duties
- Basic knowledge of health and safety practices
Some positions indicate that previous exposure in a similar environment will be an advantage, but it is not compulsory.
