Job Overview

Tiger Brands is seeking a General Worker to assist with palletizing finished rice products at its Mobeni site. The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure that packed rice bags are stacked safely and efficiently onto pallets according to prescribed stacking patterns.

The successful candidate will help ensure that finished products meet quality requirements, contain the correct quantities and are properly prepared for warehousing and dispatch. The role also involves supporting production operations, maintaining food safety standards, keeping the work area clean and following occupational health and safety procedures.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Grade 12.
• Previous experience in a packing or palletizing environment would be advantageous.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The General Worker will perform duties relating to palletizing operations, product quality, production support, food safety, housekeeping and workplace safety.

1. Palletizing Operations

The successful candidate will be responsible for stacking finished rice products onto pallets in preparation for storage and transportation.

Duties include:

• Stack packed rice bags onto pallets according to the required stacking patterns.
• Ensure that bags are properly aligned, stable and securely stacked.
• Maintain the correct pallet configuration and stacking height.
• Ensure that pallets are suitable for safe transportation and storage.

2. Product Quality

Maintaining the quality and condition of finished products is an important part of the role.

Responsibilities include:

• Inspect rice bags for tears, leaks, damaged packaging or incorrect labelling.
• Report defective products to the supervisor and follow the applicable procedures.
• Ensure that the correct product type and bag size are palletized.

3. Production Support

The General Worker will assist with maintaining an efficient flow of finished products from the packing line.

Duties include:

• Maintain a consistent flow of finished rice bags from the packing line.
• Assist with pallet wrapping, labelling and securing finished pallets when required.
• Meet daily production targets.
• Minimise product damage and waste during handling and palletizing activities.

4. Food Safety and Housekeeping

The successful candidate must maintain cleanliness in the palletizing area and follow the required food safety procedures.

Responsibilities include:

• Keep the palletizing area clean in accordance with food safety standards.
• Remove spilled rice and packaging waste promptly and safely.
• Follow hygiene procedures.
• Comply with pest-control and contamination-prevention procedures.

5. Health and Safety

The General Worker must follow workplace safety requirements when handling products and working around production equipment.

Duties include:

• Follow all applicable occupational health and safety requirements.
• Use correct manual-handling techniques.
• Wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Report unsafe conditions, damaged pallets and equipment defects.
• Never operate forklifts or other restricted machinery without the required authorisation and training.
