Are you passionate about customer service, food retail and working with people? Woolworths is looking for a Customer Assistant: Foods to join its team at Palmyra Road in the Western Cape.

As a Customer Assistant: Foods, you will play an important role in ensuring that the food department is well-stocked, clean, organised and welcoming. You will interact directly with customers, assist them with their enquiries, maintain product displays and ensure that food safety and hygiene standards are consistently followed.
The successful candidate will also be expected to support stock management by rotating products, replenishing shelves and identifying damaged or poor-quality products.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 12 / National Certificate or equivalent NQF Level qualification.
- Basic computer literacy.
- Previous experience in food retail or a similar customer service environment will be advantageous.
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including early mornings and weekends.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to communicate professionally with customers and fellow employees.
- Basic numeracy and literacy skills.
- Knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards.
- Understanding of cold-chain management.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to follow stock rotation and merchandising procedures.
- Good personal discipline and punctuality.
- Ability to comply with the required dress code and hygiene standards.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to identify quality concerns and follow the correct reporting procedures.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Greeting customers warmly and providing excellent customer service.
- Responding to customer questions and assisting with their shopping needs.
- Advising customers about available products, promotions and alternatives.
- Assisting customers when requested products are unavailable.
- Replenishing shelves and ensuring products are correctly displayed.
- Rotating stock according to the required procedures.
- Maintaining appropriate cold-chain standards.
- Following food safety and hygiene requirements.
- Identifying damaged, poor-quality or unsuitable products.
- Isolating damaged products and following the correct procedures.
- Assisting with product returns to vendors where required.
- Maintaining a clean, tidy and attractive food department.
- Following shop-keeping disciplines, including gap policies and planograms.
- Supporting shrinkage-control procedures.
- Reporting suspicious activities and dishonest acts.
- Following relevant security and red-flag procedures.
- Maintaining accurate stock-handling practices.
- Developing sufficient product knowledge to assist customers effectively.
- Promoting new products, product lines and current promotions.
- Participating in team meetings and contributing to team objectives.
- Maintaining punctuality, professional conduct and the required dress code.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure the smooth operation of the department.
