Correctional Services Community Board Member Vacancies 2026 (X22 Posts)

The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) is inviting suitably qualified and experienced South Africans to apply for Community Board Member Vacancies available across several regions of the country. A total of 22 positions are available for individuals who are passionate about promoting rehabilitation, public safety, and community involvement within the correctional system.

These appointments are statutory board positions and are not traditional full-time government jobs. Successful applicants will serve on Community Corrections and Parole Boards, where they will participate in parole hearings, assess offender rehabilitation, and contribute to decisions that balance public safety with successful offender reintegration.

Duties and Responsibilities

Successful Community Board Members will participate in parole and community corrections processes by:

  • Participating in Parole Board hearings.
  • Assessing offender rehabilitation and readiness for parole.
  • Protecting community interests during decision-making.
  • Considering victims’ concerns where applicable.
  • Applying parole legislation fairly and consistently.
  • Supporting offender reintegration into society.
  • Maintaining confidentiality.
  • Participating in Board discussions and decision-making.
  • Performing additional responsibilities assigned by the Board.

These responsibilities require sound judgement, professionalism, integrity, and an understanding of rehabilitation within the criminal justice system.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must possess:

  • A recognised Degree or National Diploma in:
    • Criminal Justice
    • Community Development
    • Social Sciences
    • Policing
    • Human Rights
    • Or another closely related field.
  • At least five (5) years’ experience in:
    • Community Development; or
    • Criminal Justice.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Good decision-making ability.
  • Integrity and honesty.
  • Confidentiality.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Client orientation.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Parole Board system.

Previous experience in a decision-making position will be an added advantage.

The Department also encourages retired professionals with relevant qualifications and experience to apply.

Salary

Successful candidates will receive monthly remuneration in accordance with Category D, Sub-category D1 of the National Treasury remuneration framework applicable to statutory boards.

As these are statutory appointments, remuneration differs from standard Public Service salary scales.
