The Gauteng Department of Health is inviting suitably qualified and experienced applicants to apply for the position of Cleaner Supervisor Level 4 at Edenvale Regional Hospital.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced cleaning professional who has strong supervisory, organisational and communication skills and understands the importance of maintaining high standards of hygiene, cleanliness and infection prevention within a healthcare environment.
The successful candidate will supervise cleaning staff, allocate daily duties, monitor performance, manage cleaning materials and equipment, and ensure that cleaning standards are consistently maintained throughout the hospital.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must have:
- Grade 10 or equivalent qualification.
- Grade 12 will be an added advantage.
- At least 3 years’ experience in cleaning services.
- Hospital or clinical cleaning experience will be an added advantage.
- Basic understanding of relevant workplace policies.
- Knowledge of Batho Pele Principles.
- Understanding of the Patient Rights Charter.
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety.
- Understanding of National Core Standards and relevant healthcare priorities.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong planning and organisational skills.
- Ability to supervise and coordinate staff.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Good written and verbal communication.
- Ability to handle confidential information.
- Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising cleaning staff and ensuring that high standards of cleanliness are maintained.
Duties include:
- Supervising the work of cleaning staff.
- Assigning daily schedules and duties to subordinates.
- Training employees on cleaning standards and procedures.
- Monitoring the daily performance of cleaning personnel.
- Ensuring cleaning schedules and checklists are implemented.
- Conducting daily walkabouts and inspections.
- Reporting challenges, incidents and other concerns to management.
- Ensuring appropriate cleaning procedures are followed.
- Maintaining continuous quality-control measures.
- Managing human resources matters such as leave, PMDS and overtime claims.
- Preparing and submitting weekly and monthly reports.
- Ordering, receiving and safely storing cleaning materials.
- Managing cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- Controlling the daily issuing of cleaning chemicals.
- Monitoring attendance and adherence to official working hours.
- Supporting infection prevention and control measures.
- Ensuring proper segregation and disposal of waste.
- Ensuring employees use the required personal protective equipment.
- Developing annual leave plans to minimise absenteeism.
- Carrying out any other reasonable work-related instructions.
EXPERIENCE IN HEALTHCARE
Experience in a hospital or clinical environment will be particularly advantageous because the role requires an understanding of hygiene, infection prevention, waste management, occupational health and safety, and healthcare cleaning standards.
The successful candidate must understand that maintaining a clean healthcare environment contributes to the safety and wellbeing of patients, visitors and employees.
